AQ 1000 arc quenching device

Arcteq is proud to announce production release of AQ 1000 arc quenching device. The AQ 1000 is developed to maximize low voltage switchgear and control gear operational safety. Use of AQ 1000 guarantees effective arc extinguishing in as little as 3 milliseconds.

AQ 1000 can be applied to any system of up to 100kA and 690V rated equipment. The total 3 millisecond arcing time maximizes both personnel and equipment safety and minimizes outage times.

The newly released AQ 1000 system is developed focusing in total system dependability. The AQ 1000 is operated in conjunction with well proven AQ 100 arc flash protection system. Both AQ 100 and AQ 1000 systems are designed to meet the most stringent applicable standards. The system is tested according to protection relay standards, IEC 60255 and ANSI C39.70, and with their highest applicable classes.

Continuous self-supervision of all components is a standard feature of the system and any potential erroneous condition is alarmed.

The AQ 1000 arc quenching system is fully reusable and is equipped with convenient reset mechanism. Reusability enables total system testing and validation at factory and in actual site installation. Correct arc protection scheme set-up and total system operation time from arc detection to arc quenching can be validated at site prior to energizing.

AQ 1000 can be applied to both new and existing installations. Retrofitting the arc quenching device to existing switchgears prolongs the switchgear life time and mitigates the potentially drastic consequences of arcing faults.

The Guru

Samuel Dahl, Product Manager - Arc protection is excited about the new release:

¡°This is where the world is moving to; it is all about safer electrical distribution systems. We talk about both personnel safety and outage management, considering that a single unmanaged arcing fault may cause lives and millions of dollars in outage time. Industry standards are driving for the safety and people are starting to realize the risks, and even the most demanding switchgear arc resistant designs like NEMA 2 types do not guarantee the operational safety."

The AQ 1000 is applicable for both new and existing installations.

"There is so much old gear out there and the only way to make them safer is to apply something like AQ 1000. We will make many existing installations safer with the AQ 1000¡±, says Mr. Dahl.

Mr. Samuel Dahl, B.Sc. Electronic Engineering, has been making electrical distribution systems globally safer for more than 20 years. He has been developing four generations of arc protection systems, he holds several patents and has contributed to various white papers on arc protection.
